Downers Grove Students Win Gold at Science Exposition

Students from St. Joseph School in Downers Grove won six gold awards at the State Exposition of the Illinois Junior Academy of Science held at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign this past weekend. Movie Theatres Upgrade with New Technology

Spliced 35mm plastic film is on the way out, being replaced by digital projectors reading movies from hard drives. 1,200 Days into Trash-to-Ethanol Contract, Little to Show for It

(Original Post: (4/18/12) In November of 2008, the Lake County Solid Waste Management District Board voted to award a trash consolidation to Powers Energy of America for its trash-to-ethanol process. However, 1,200 days into the contract and there is little to no progress.  Continue reading here.

Update (4/23/12): Two months after walking out of a meeting with Lake County officials, Earl Powers of Powers Energy of America issued an apology. However, officials stated they needed progress on the trash-to-ethanol plant, not an apology. Continue reading here.

Evanston Police Test License Plate ID Technology

Evanston police are testing the ability to identify cars with outstanding tickets by capturing images of vehicle license plants and running them against ticket databases. The new system would also monitor 2-hour parking and overtime zones. Feelings are mixed on the system’s implementation.  Continue reading here.
